- VPS5: $103,920 to $125,735 per annum plus superannuation
- Ongoing, Full Time
- Kew (the department provides flexible working arrangements)
About the Division/Group
Network Planning is a Group within the Department of Transport, and is responsible to understand and maximise the capacity of the existing network, plan for future needs and work towards creating a more integrated transport network that delivers better outcomes for all users. We do this by translating transport strategy into sustainable plans to be implemented through a pipeline of projects, keeping community values such as liveability, road safety, economic prosperity and community connectedness at our core.
About the Role
The Lead Engineer – Traffic Modelling, is responsible for the provision of expert traffic modelling advice, including reviews of external consultant models, managing the undertaking of traffic modelling within the team, management of the training of others in traffic modelling, building and maintaining a relationship with other modellers within DoT, and development and maintenance of traffic modelling guidelines. The role requires a strong background in areas of traffic modelling such as mesoscopic modelling, microsimulation modelling and intersection modelling.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development and/or delivery of technical services including significant projects, and provide expert advice that has an impact on the decisions made by others outside the immediate work area by using a consultative and client focussed approach
- Apply well developed specialist skills to proactively contribute to the development and refinement of DoT standard documentation in relation to the management, design and construction of roads and other road related infrastructure
Key Selection Criteria
- Influence and lead the development of a range of options/solutions to address complex technical issues in order to meet client needs
- Lead the development and implementation of new technical specification standards and guidelines across operational areas

Qualifications
- Mandatory Appropriate engineering qualifications apply
- Desirable Extensive experience in performing transport modelling projects and tasks using VISUM, VISSIM, and SIDRA.
