  • Full time maximum term position up to 2 years
  • Salary based on experience, range: $118,802 - $151,201 plus super

About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid's (VLA) Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is centred upon improving access to legal services by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and advocate for systemic change.

In this role, you will oversee our Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer (ACEO) program at a state-wide level, leading a team of ACEOs located in VLA's Mildura, Morwell, Shepparton, Geelong and Ballarat offices, with further expansion planned in the near future. Reporting to the Associate Director, Aboriginal Services, you will work closely to develop and implement effective monitoring and reporting processes and support the integration and management of ACEOs within local VLA teams.

As part of the Aboriginal Services leadership team, you will contribute to the development of VLA strategies and initiatives, driven through the RAP, to positively engage with and improve the experience of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities. You will build collaborative working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders such as Aboriginal justice, legal and related networks, and VLA local management.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you bring:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities in Victoria, including an awareness of the social, demographic, economic, health and housing issues that inhibit access to justice and appropriate services.
  • An ability to communicate effectively to build rapport and establish relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to support delivery of client services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively capture and report on data.
  • Strong critical thinking to contribute to the ongoing review of the program and role of the ACEOs with a view to refining and strengthening client facing service delivery.

Please note that this position is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people (mandatory). This role may be based at any VLA office location as negotiated by the successful candidate.
