ROLE: Staff Anaesthetist or VMO Anaesthetist 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Anaesthesia  

DEPARTMENT: Medical Services Division  

ROLE STATEMENT:  

This senior clinician role is responsible for: 

  1. Providing anaesthesia and perioperative services within scope of clinical practice.
  2. Participating in oncall roster in Anaesthetics/High Dependency and providing support for medical, obstetric and other clinical emergencies.
  3. Supervision and support of Junior Medical Officers (JMOs).
  4. Supporting continual improvement of anaesthesia services at ERH.

 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:  

KSC1   General and Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia

KSC2   Relevant postgraduate training in anaesthesia

KSC3   Significant experience in anaesthesia and perioperative services

KSC4   Evidence of participation in relevant CPD

KSC5   Demonstrated interest in and commitment to education and training

KSC6   Interpersonal skills that promote effective teamwork and patient safety 

This position requires completion of a satisfactory National Police Check and a Working with Children's check prior to appointment. 

MANDATORY TRAINING:

  • Mandatory training as required by ERH Policy & Procedure 

MANDATORY SKILLS:

  • Significant experience in the provision of general, regional and local anaesthesia
  • Skills in the effective management of anaesthesia crises, including management of a difficult airway
  • Skills in post-operative pain management consistent with safe, evidence based practice
  • Skills in caring for HDU patients, including all services that HDU provides, e.g. non-invasive ventilation (NIV), central venous catheter (CVC) placement, arterial lines
  • Behavioural qualities that reflect ERH Values
