An exciting opportunity exists for a Director on a fixed term, executive contract (SES-1) basis in the newly established Aboriginal Self Determination and Outcomes Division which has been created to drive Aboriginal self-determination across the department.

The new division will drive a reform to a whole of system response to Aboriginal communities, and in doing so, will oversee policy, program and operational areas to ensure improved outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.

The Director, Aboriginal Innovation and Cultural Safety leads the development of innovation and practice compliance for the delivery of service with Aboriginal communities. Working collaboratively across the department and in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Aboriginal Communities to improve the experience and outcomes for Aboriginal children, people and families who use services.

You will be responsible for assisting the department in the response, implementation and delivery of key Aboriginal initiatives such as the Nation Agreement on Closing the Gap. You will support and provide strategic advice to senior executives across the department, for key advisory or governance bodies and ensure the voice of Aboriginal and diverse employees is elevated in line with the department's commitment to inclusion.

The position will require:

- a strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture and principles of self-determination;

- highly developed leadership, negotiation and relationship building skills; and

- a strong understanding of public policy and the political environment in relation to Aboriginal communities.  

The position will have a management partnership with the Deputy Secretary, Aboriginal Self-determination and Outcomes to ensure connectivity to Aboriginal portfolios and strengthen delivery of Aboriginal workforce and Cultural safety.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS POLICY

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of its workers and clients.  The department may require its employees to be fully vaccinated against preventable diseases such as the current coronavirus (COVID-19).  The department's COVID-19 Vaccination requirements policy (Word) outlines the requirements for existing employees, other workplace participants and prospective employees.  Subject to exceptions, only employees or other workplace participants with up-to-date vaccination status (see definitions section of the policy) against COVID-19 and who provide evidence of their Vaccination Status are permitted to work for the department outside their ordinary place of residence.  For this role, you are required to submit proof of vaccination prior to commencement.  Please refer to the above link for more information.
