Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd (AVS) is a commercial arm of the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR). AVS manages and commercialises the research & innovation (R&I) outputs and IP assets of the Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR) branch of DJPR - to maximise their commercialisation impact for the benefit of Victorian farmers, agriculture and related industries. AVS is seeking to appoint a Chief Commercialisation Officer (CCO) responsible for leading the delivery of AVS’ core functions that enable and enhance the commercialisation of the novel agtech innovations of AVR for advancing agricultural production, food and the food supply chain.

Position Details

The Role

  • Translate novel research inventions into real-world innovations that impact current and emerging challenges in the agriculture sector
  • Drive agtech commercialisation and investment activities
  • Lead and inspire team of talented IP & commercialisation professionals
  • Senior Executive role (SES-2) - Fixed term up to three (3) years.


The ideal candidate will bring relevant agriculture technology commercialisation and biosciences industry experience, as well as a proven track record in establishing major commercial collaborations and securing significant commercialisation deals. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the ability to work with leading scientists and key local and global commercial partners in the emerging agtech ecosystem is vital for the AVS' CCO role, as is a track record of successfully engaging with relevant agriculture industry and IP innovation partners.

You will bring expertise in guiding the protection and management of biosciences IP and successfully delivering significant agtech commercialisation agreements, outcomes and financial returns.   A record of demonstrated experience in technology commercialisation strategy, successful licensing deals or entrepreneurial startup ventures is essential, preferably for major agtech or biosciences IP assets. 

This values-driven leadership role requires high level communication and interpersonal skills and requires an ability to influence, negotiate, and build constructive and effective internal and external relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.   Experience in a relevant senior management role as well as science, business or IP qualifications are mandatory requirements.
