Position Details
About the Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Advisor, Plumbing Codes and Standards to provide expert technical and regulatory advice supporting the functions of the State Building Surveyor. This role plays a critical part in improving national building and plumbing standards, driving regulatory reform, and strengthening the safety, sustainability and performance of Victoria's built environment.
Reporting to the Manager, Plumbing Codes and Standards, you will contribute to the development and implementation of expert advice, policy and strategic responses on complex and high‑impact matters affecting the building and plumbing sector.
What we are looking for:
- A recognised subject‑matter expert in plumbing regulation, codes and standards, with the ability to provide authoritative technical and regulatory advice at senior and ministerial levels.
- Strong strategic and analytical capability, including experience identifying emerging risks, trends and issues and developing practical legislative and technical solutions.
- Proven experience working collaboratively across government, national bodies and industry, including representation on committees, reference groups and standards forums.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience preparing high‑quality briefings, binding determinations and advice on complex matters.
- Registered as a plumber in main classes of plumbing work under Part 12A of the Building Act 1993.
- Tertiary qualifications in Hydraulic Engineering, Mechanical Services Engineering or similar will be highly regarded.
