Position Details
BRHS is offering a fantastic opportunity to be supported to pursue your oncology nursing career. These roles will suit either experienced Oncology Nurses or talented Registered Nurses who are interested in further developing their skills in cancer care nursing as support will be provided to progress your specialised nursing career.
The Contract: Ongoing, Part Time, 32.0 hours per fortnight
The Position:
In this role you will deliver holistic high standard care in the management of cancer and medical treatments, ensuring a safe, non-threatening environment for staff, patients and their support person/family. Oncology experience is preferred, however if you have limited experience in this area but have excellent assessment skills & acute experience, our experienced team will support you to increase your knowledge in this field.
Opportunities to undertake post graduate study in cancer nursing are supported by local and regional scholarships for applicants who meet the criteria. This position will include regular opportunities to cover annual leave and expert on the job training will be provided.

Key Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years recent acute nursing experience
- Well-developed critical thinking and clinical assessment skills
- Commitment to meeting the special needs of those undertaking cancer & medical infusion treatments
- Cannulation and CVAD competencies desirable but mandatory to develop and maintain
- Demonstrated self-directed learning in cancer care an advantage

The Organisation and the Department.
As the largest healthcare provider and employer in East Gippsland, Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS) is a progressive organisation, providing multi-disciplinary services to a rapidly growing population.
The Oncology department encompasses the oncology day unit (ODU) and specialist cancer nursing roles to provide care to patients in association with the Gippsland Regional Cancer Care Centre (GRCCC) Oncologist and Haematologist team. The ODU care includes administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), blood and blood products and other supportive intravenous therapies. The Oncology Unit collaborates with senior cancer nursing led roles including; Cancer Care Nurse Co-ordinator, Prostate Specialist Cancer Nurse, Oncology Nurse Practitioner candidate, Cancer Survivorship clinic, and a Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC). Short term projects are undertaken periodically to improve best practice for cancer patients and funding opportunities are investigated as required in collaboration with the executive team.
