Position Details

Applications are invited from experienced Registered Nurses to join the nursing leadership team in our new Tambo Medical/Surgical ward on a fixed term basis. If you are looking for a new challenge, this role offers an opportunity to further develop your management skills.

The newly built Tambo ward contains 34 beds with a 4 bed higher acuity area and 2 bariatric beds. The unit provides care for a large spectrum of medical conditions and post-operative care for gynaecology, urology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, ENT, general surgery patients. The ward also has facilities for cardiac monitoring via both mobile telemetry units and fixed monitors. 

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager is an integral member of the Tambo Medical/Surgical Ward team providing excellence in nursing care and supporting the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure best practice clinical care is delivered. 

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A minimum of three years recent clinical experience in surgical and/or medical nursing.
  • Experience in team leadership and care co-ordination.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Advanced Med/Surg Nursing, High Dependency Nursing or Critical Care (or working towards) is highly desirable.
  • Well-developed decision making skills with the capacity to determine the best course of action in a timely manner.
  • Well-developed high acuity nursing skills with a good understanding of and commitment to providing patient centred care.
  • Advanced clinical assessment and care planning skills including a good understanding of principles of escalation of care.
  • A demonstrated understanding and ability to facilitate patient flow and early discharge planning.
  • Proven ability to remain flexible, open and composed in difficult situations.
