Position Details

An opportunity exists within our Community Nursing team for an experienced nurse with a qualification in Diabetes Education to join the team and further develop their skills and expertise in this discipline.  Applications for a portion of these hours will be considered.

As a Diabetes Nurse Educator at BRHS you will perform individual health assessments, monitoring and education as well as facilitating health education to schools and community groups on a variety of issues pertaining to diabetes management.  This position is responsible for aiding people to become informed of issues affecting their health, enabling them to accept and share responsibility in recognising their own health needs and make choices that are relevant/appropriate to their life situation.

The Community Health Service provides a multidisciplinary team approach to enhancing the health and wellbeing of the community. Individuals and groups are encouraged and supported to make healthy lifestyle choices through education, information and targeted health- promoting activities.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate:

  • A Registered Nurse with a Graduate certificate in Diabetes Education.
  • Working towards (or a commitment to) becoming a credentialed diabetes educator.
  • A good knowledge of diabetes management with the ability to deliver effective client education to individuals and groups.
  • A genuine interest in diabetes education and proven experience providing education to health professionals.
  • An understanding of issues confronting clients in the community, particularly clients with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients with low health literacy skills and with a range of health professionals.
