Position Details


The Victorian Rural Generalist Program (VRGP) is a new program to be developed in response to the Strengthening Rural Generalist Training plan created by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2019 to build on existing rural medical workforce programs and investment in rural medical workforce.  Rural Generalists are GP's and recognised as a key workforce in rural and regional Victoria.


The Position:

This role will be one of five Regional Rural Generalist Coordinators for the VRGP and will play a crucial role in the management of the program and support to trainees in the VRGP in Gippsland and in establishing links between all stakeholders involved in the training and education of rural generalists.

Face-to-face contact, either in person or ‘virtual' is an integral part of the education support function and the Program Coordinator must be willing and available to travel extensively throughout Gippsland and the State to support trainees, supervisors and mentors. In addition, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for the provision of Secretariat support for the Regional Network and the delivery of marketing, engagement and education activities.  

This is a full time role consisting of an initial 6 month appointment with potential to lead into a 3 year contract.

This role will be hosted by Bairnsdale Regional Health Service but may based at another location in the Gippsland area.


What you need:

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including developing and maintaining communication channels and networks with clinicians across healthcare settings.
  • Qualifications and experience in health administration or project management are highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse range of stakeholders including clinicians and trainees to achieve identified program objectives.
  • Current knowledge of contemporary rural and regional medical workforce issues and programs. 
  • A good knowledge of medical training requirements, including pre-vocational and general practice training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.
  • Proven ability to collect and analyse data and prepare reports submissions and plans.
