About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

About Finance Services
Finance Services supports the core financial management and analysis functions of the courts and tribunals, ensuring Courts Group adheres to the Victorian Government's financial management and accountability framework for the proper use of public resources.
The Financial Accounting team deliver key activities including setting policies and procedures for conformance with legislation and regulations, producing detailed analysis, briefings, statutory reports, and financial statements for government and central agencies, and leading the management of financial risks.
About the role
The Financial Accountant is responsible for managing month-end and year-end financial processing and reconciliation activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results. Key responsibilities include reconciling general ledger accounts and specific expenditure items, processing journals, and cost allocations, undertaking leave adjustments, submitting cash forecasts to the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF), administering the purchase card program, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, reconciling trust funds, and conducting expense analysis.
The role also supports the Senior Financial Accountants in the preparation and lodgement of monthly taxation returns, management of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) obligations, statutory reporting requirements, and reporting to committees. In addition, the Financial Accountant contributes to the review and maintenance of financial policies, procedures, authorisations, and delegations.
Key accountabilities include:
- Preparation and lodgement of monthly tax returns.
- Preparation and submission of cash forecasts to the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF).
- Administration and oversight of corporate purchasing cards.
- Month-end accounting activities, including reconciliations and journal processing.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual financial statements.
- Supporting compliance obligations, including Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) reporting and Standing Directions compliance.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to public sector financial reporting, taxation, and compliance activities while working within a collaborative and professional finance team.
About you
- A relevant tertiary degree qualification in accounting or a business discipline is desirable.
- Membership of CA/CPA or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated financial analysis skills, preferably in a large organisation within a public sector setting.
- Thorough grounding in taxation reporting requirements
- Strong understanding of general accounting controls and compliance requirements as well as a working knowledge of the Financial Management Act (1994) as amended, associated regulations and government directions.
- Demonstrated experience in reconciling GL accounts, including bank accounts, journal processing, cost allocations etc.
- Demonstrated experience in assisting with the preparation of annual financial statements
- Demonstrated expertise with Oracle, Power BI and the Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, PowerPoint
