About the role:
We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Commonwealth Entitlements team. You will act as an advocate by providing high quality legal services including duty lawyer services, casework and advice services in civil law matters. You will appear before courts and tribunals, including the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Magistrates' Court, the Mental Health Review Board, and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), to effectively represent and advocate for clients with civil and human rights issues.

You will provide advice to management and senior staff on legal, policy and administrative issues that affect or may affect the efficient operation of the Civil Justice Program. You will also participate in community legal education projects, law reform and other VLA projects as required.

About you:
You are a practising lawyer with knowledge and experience in the civil law jurisdiction including social security, mental health, tenancy, infringements and discrimination law. You have knowledge and experience in relevant law and procedures with a focus on Commonwealth entitlements (social security law and the NDIS), and other civil law areas including mental health, tenancy, infringements and discrimination law.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your sound interpersonal skills and the capacity to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels. You will also demonstrate your willingness to foster a cooperative and supportive team environment and commitment to our vision and values.
