Position Details
Provide high level business support to the functioning of the County Koori Court and act as Koori Support Officer as required at Melbourne and circuit Koori Court hearings
The role will involve extensive engagement with key internal and external stakeholders as part of the daily operations of the County Koori Court operations and will coordinate Koori Court events, workshops, reference group meetings and training

About us
The County Koori Court (CKC) is an alternative way of administering sentences so that Court processes are more culturally accessible as well as acceptable and comprehensible to the Koori Community. The key emphasis is on creating an informal atmosphere which allows for greater participation by the Koori Community through the Aboriginal Elders and Respected Persons, the Koori Court Officer, Koori defendants and their families in the court and sentencing process. It aims to reduce perceptions of intimidation and cultural alienation experienced by Koori offenders.
About the role
We are seeking a Koori Support and Operations Officer to join our County Koori Court team. The main responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Providing cultural advice to the Court and assistance to Koori/Aboriginal persons and their families coming before the County Koori Court regarding court obligations and outcomes.
- Supporting the Koori/Aboriginal community in understanding and gaining knowledge of the operations and procedures of the County Koori Court
- Carrying out extensive stakeholder engagement with key internal and external stakeholders as part of the daily operations of the Koori Court unit
- Coordinating events, training, workshops, reference groups and meetings including scheduling, development of standard communications (invites, agendas, minutes), catering, accommodation and travel requirements, document requirements and correspondence.
- Provide operational and business support to the Koori Court unit
About you
To be successful in this role you will require a sound knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal culture and society and an ability to communicate effectively with Victorian Aboriginal People. Demonstrated high-level business support experience in a similar environment is also essential.
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
