The Koori Court Officer plays a major role in the ongoing successful operation of the County Koori Court in Melbourne and Mildura. It has primary responsibility for the relationship building and liaison with the Koori Community on behalf of the court in these regions. The role focuses around the responsibility and the opportunity to promote, advocate for, and achieve positive changes in the lives of Koori accused persons, their families and their communities.
The role requires a high degree of sensitivity coupled with efficiency and professionalism as the Koori Court Officer must work closely with the County Koori Court Judges, Elders, accused and their families, legal practitioners and service providers and balance their differing needs in the pursuit of the County Koori Court objectives.
The County Koori Court Officer contributes to the program through their intimate knowledge of the local community and the impacts of the justice system on that community.
The position is primarily based in Melbourne however some intrastate travel may be required.
