Position Details

The Commonwealth Games – an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the 72 member nations of the Commonwealth – is coming to Victoria in 2026.

Millions worldwide will watch the thriving regional centres of Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Gippsland and Shepparton host a jam-packed schedule of 20 sports, nine para sports, the Games ceremonies and festival program that together will showcase the best of Regional Victoria.

The Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (Victoria 2026) will deliver the Games. As a joint venture between the State of Victoria, the Commonwealth Games Federation and Commonwealth Games Australia, it is tasked with organising a world-class event for athletes, spectators, locals and the Commonwealth of Nations.

About the role

The Senior Project Officer, Ceremonies and Festival will support the planning, development and delivery of key projects for the Culture and Ceremonies Group, including planning for the design and delivery of the Commonwealth Games Festival, Opening and Closing and other Ceremonies. The successful applicant will have a strong interest in the successful delivery of the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in 2026 and experience in the design and delivery of creative, music or sporting events, and/or experience in program delivery of these events (for example, in local or state government).

This role sits within the Culture and Ceremonies Group, which is responsible for the delivery of key cultural and community aspects of the Victorian 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Group will be developing, supporting and implementing the Ceremonies program, the Festival and Cultural Program, the Queen's Baton Relay and Sports Presentation in venues. The Group also leads First Peoples Engagement for the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games, including developing the Reconciliation Action Plan to guide engagement and deliver outcomes for Victoria's First Peoples.
