Position Details

Head Chef


  • A new opportunity has arisen for a Head Chef to join the food services team at ERH
  • The position will be 76 hours per fortnight, predominantly Monday to Friday

Applications are sought from suitably qualified chefs with previous commercial kitchen experience, to work in the Corporate Services Department at Echuca Regional Health.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Update and review all menus as required with input and approval from relevant departments, including costing;
  • Oversee the implementation of and monitoring of, the ERH Food Safety Plan including training all kitchen staff in monitoring requirements and actioning out of specification results;
  • Address supplier quality issues;
  • Address internal (patient / resident) complaints with kitchen staff and provide information to Corporate Services Manager;
  • Maintain adequate stock levels and ordering in compliance where appropriate with HPV catering contracts;
  • Comply with all ERH health and safety policies and document all safety incidents;
  • Train and instruct staff in new methods and food production techniques;
  • Supervise the production and testing of food prior to meal service;
  • Participate in training as required;
  • Adhere to and monitor staff adherence to hospital infection control policies and procedures;
  • Be aware of and respect patient / visitor privacy;
  • Participate in departmental and organisational meetings as required;
  • Be aware of and respect patient / visitor privacy;
  • Working in a fast paced environment to meet the needs of patients, residents, visitors and staff. 

Our team requires someone who has:

  • High-level awareness of  manual handling technique and chemical awareness     
  • Previous experience as a Head Chef     
  • Current Food Safety Supervisor qualifications (HLTFSE001, 005, 007 or HLTFS207C, 309C, 310C)  

This position requires completion of a satisfactory National Police Check prior to appointment.
