Position Details

Chief Operating Officer

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for all non-financial corporate services functions for the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA).

The role is critical in supporting the CEO and VFA Board in delivering efficient and effective corporate services to the Authority, while also ensuring the organisation has the proper systems and controls in place to deliver a strong governance and compliance framework.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Provide high level strategic advice to the CEO, VFA Board and VFA executive team on corporate governance and corporate services matters.
  • Support the operations and functions of the VFA Board and associated committees.
  • Provide expert advice, strategic direction and lead delivery of corporate services including strategic and business planning.
  • Lead change management and the implementation of automated internal control mechanisms.
  • Ensure management practices, policies and business processes are established and maintained.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance key professional relationships providing advanced expertise to ensure VFA's strategic and operational objectives are met.

To be successful you will have:

  • Significant high level experience working at a senior level with a comprehensive understanding of corporate governance principles and practices, preferably within a public sector environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the demonstrated capacity to set strategic direction, drive accountability and create resilience in self and others.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing programs, policies, guidelines and interventions that are consistent with business objectives and organisational values.
  • Proven experience developing and leading a high performing team in the delivery of corporate services and creating a positive workplace culture.
  • Highly developed stakeholder management and business acumen.
  • Excellent communication and strong problem solving, conceptual and analytical skills.
