Position Details

The Post Sentence Branch, within the Offender Management Division of Corrections Victoria, provides central oversight and governance of the post sentence scheme and offenders subject to post sentence orders. The Serious Offenders Act 2018 (SOA) sets out a civil, non-punitive scheme that provides for the ongoing supervision or detention of serious sex and/or serious violent offenders who have completed their sentence and pose an unacceptable risk of committing further relevant offences. Corrections Victoria's end-to-end management and delivery of services to serious offenders on post-sentence orders occurs through a multi-faceted governance and operating model.

This position coordinates processes and protocols that ensure applications to court for Supervision Orders or Detention Orders, and applications for review of those Orders under the SOA are prepared, submitted and followed up. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct pre-release planning for eligible offenders currently in prison, including coordinating accommodation and services
  • Prepare information packs for Departmental witnesses in applications at Court
  • Coordinate follow up for Departmental witnesses following case conferences and Court
  • Notify relevant parties of Court outcomes
  • Liaise with stakeholders such as DHHS, Post Sentence Authority, Prison Management, Victoria Police, the County and Supreme Court and other external agencies to obtain documentation and arrange meetings as required for Detention and Supervision Order applications.

About you

  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Experience developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at peer and senior levels
  • Demonstrated perseverance in achieving objectives and copes effectively with setbacks and problems
  • Experience working in a Correctional environment and/or within a legislative framework is desirable, but not mandatory.
