An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced, ambitious Legal Policy Officer within our Strategic Policy and Planning Division in Corrections Victoria.

About us

The Legal Policy Branch is part of the Strategic Policy and Planning Division of Corrections Victoria and is responsible for leading and delivering Corrections Victoria's legislative development program and for ensuring that the organisation operates within a compliant legislative and legal framework.

About the role

As a Legal Policy Officer, you will assist in the delivery of the legislation program and the development of new legislative, regulatory and policy proposals that will assist Corrections Victoria in the delivery of a safe, humane and sustainable correctional system.

In the role, you will:

  • provide sound policy and legal advice on a wide variety of issues and legislation impacting on corrections in Victoria
  • assist in the development of legislative and regulatory proposals through all stages of the legislation process
  • research and monitor developments and emerging issues in corrections-related law and policy in Victoria.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • knowledge of Cabinet, Parliamentary and Executive Council processes for development of new legislation and regulations
  • completion of a relevant tertiary or equivalent educational qualification in law
  • experience in complex policy work programs aligning with Corrections Victoria's business objectives
  • ability to effectively support and contribute to the presentation of detailed and comprehensive reports, policy options and recommendations on complex issues.

Admission or eligibility for admission to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria would be highly regarded.
