Position Details

  • Cultural support to rehabilitate and reintegrate Aboriginal residents back into the community
  • Ongoing, VPS Grade 4 ($84,019 - $95,329) plus superannuation

An exciting opportunity exists for an Aboriginal Cultural Advisor on an ongoing basis, working across three accommodation facilities, Corella Place, Rivergum Residential Treatment in Ararat and a third in Trawalla.

About the Role

Your primary function as the Aboriginal Cultural Advisor will be to coordinate programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (Aboriginal) residents, activities and support services across Corella Place and Rivergum.   Key accountabilities of the Aboriginal Cultural Advisor include:

  • Group and one-on-one cultural support including the facilitation of cultural programs to Aboriginal residents to assist them on their pathway of potentially reintegrating back into the community.      
  • Engaging with Traditional Owner groups and the local Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee (RAJAC) in the development and design of cultural programs and cultural spaces.
  • Providing staff with specialist advice and education on the delivery of culturally relevant services for Aboriginal residents, and supporting the development of culturally relevant protocols.

About You

We are looking for a leader or an emerging leader who is skilled, self-motivated and compassionate, to effectively promote and influence culturally safe program development and provide service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents.

You will have a clear focus on the provision of culturally appropriate services, and will use your own cultural expertise and knowledge to foster respectful relationships with communities and enhance positive relationships.

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture, and relevant issues impacting the community
  • demonstrated knowledge of reducing re-offending literature, particularly in relation to the Aboriginal community
  • experience in developing and facilitating Aboriginal cultural programs
  • demonstrated experience of providing culturally relevant services

Travelling to various locations will be required, therefore a current driver's licence is highly desirable.
