What does the business unit do?

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria. 

Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights. 

Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services. 

Evidence and Insights is responsible for providing end-to-end evidence-based policy support to the Department of Justice and Community Safety, and the reporting of data and research to the Victorian public through the Crime Statistics Agency and the National Coronial Information System. 

What will the role do?

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Provide strategic digital and data advice, strategies and plans that support departmental direction and business outcomes.
  • Provide the Associate Deputy Secretary and Chief Information Officer with a high-quality integrated set of business support services that enable clear and unambiguous understanding of the operational status of the business unit.
  • Provide operational and strategic snapshots of progress against plans to assist in executive decision making, investment decisions and corrective actions.

What skills should a Manager, Business Operations have?

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Significant and specialist expertise in leading and liaising with senior business executives to understand and deliver strategic business outcomes through the application of modern technology  
  • Significant experience in Identifying issues with portfolio structure, cost, risk impact on business activities and strategic benefits. Implement and monitor corrective actions for projects and programmes. 
  • Significant experience in the ability to identify needs, develop and gain executive support for business cases that secure funding for the delivery of identified benefits.plan and direct activities to implement a programme from initiation to final operational stage, including transition to “business-as-usual”.  
  • Significant experience in change implementation and planning to ensure a business perspective on how new technical capabilities will be integrated into the business.  
  • Is recognised as an authority on the ability to Identify and activate specific digital & data benefits measurement mechanisms.  
  • Significant experience in monitoring benefits against business plans and ensuring that participants fully exploit the new business environment once it is in place.  
  • Is relied upon for the provision of expert advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders in this field of expertise.
  • A tertiary qualification in information technology management is desirable.
