About the business unit 

Evidence and Insights is tasked with supporting the Chief Operating Officer in leading the department's agenda in the delivery of justice and community safety services in Victoria by providing a strong evidence base for the development of effective policy and effective organisational management.

Evidence and Insights focuses on meeting the department's data needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. It is also responsible for providing end-to-end evidence-based policy support across the department and the reporting of data and research to the Victorian public through the Crime Statistics Agency.

About the role 

The Lead Data Analyst is responsible for maintaining strong partnerships with policy areas across DJCS and data providers within the justice system to understand their inform.ation needs and data holdings, and leading the development of data analytics products and insights to meet these needs. The Lead Data Analyst will be required to manage a small team of analysts, coordinate cross-functional projects and follow strong project management practices that result in successful project outcomes.

The Lead Data Analyst leads a team working with protected level data and is required to ensure that the team's work is undertaken appropriately with regard to the Victorian Data Security Standards, relevant Privacy provisions and legislative requirements.

Some of your duties will include: 

  • Experience in leading teams and building effective partnerships with stakeholders to design and implement data analytics products and projects.
  • Experience in interrogating, manipulating and linking large datasets to produce repeatable data reporting and statistical analyses. 
  • Experience in managing complex projects, with demonstrated strategies to keep project sponsors appropriately inform.ed and proactively manage project risks.

About you 

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Experience in leading teams and building effective partnerships with stakeholders to design and implement data analytics products and projects.
  • Experience in interrogating, manipulating and linking large datasets to produce repeatable data reporting and statistical analyses. 
  • Experience in managing complex projects, with demonstrated strategies to keep project sponsors appropriately inform.ed and proactively manage project risks.
  • A tertiary qualification and/or experience in statistics, criminology, economics, data analytics, social science or a related field with a major focus on quantitative research methods or data analysis is highly desirable.
