About the Business Unit:

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria. Within DJCS, the Governance and Assurance (G&A) business unit, within the Corporate Strategy and Delivery (CSD) Group, leads key governance and assurance functions for the department. Within G&A, the Assurance branch leads DJCS' risk management, insurance, audit, resilience (emergency management, business continuity, and exposure), and FOI functions.  

This position sits within the Governance & Assurance Branch, in CSD.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Senior Adviser, Risk, is a specialist position and risk business partner within the Assurance branch responsible for working with groups and business units within DJCS to coordinate and deliver the department's risk management program.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Lead delivery of the department's risk work program, overseeing the implementation and continuous improvement of risk management frameworks, policies, training programs, and supporting tools and resources
  • Provide expert and authoritative risk advice to the senior manager, executives, and external stakeholders, supporting governance, identification of insurable risk, provision of risk intelligence, compliance, and informed decision-making across the department
  • Strategically coordinate and advise across business units to lead service delivery excellence, embed best practice risk management, support reduced operational exposure, and ensure alignment with legislative and policy obligations.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Knowledge of risk management standards – an understanding of AS ISO 31000: 2018 Risk Management - Guidelines and the practical application of this standard is highly desirable 
  • Extensive skills and experience and tertiary / industry qualifications in risk management, compliance, or business management is highly desirable.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary or professional qualification desirable, including in risk management, compliance, or business management.
