About the business unit: 

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Technology Solutions and Data Security focuses on meeting the department's data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes.

Technology Solutions and Data Security explores and employs technology to enable the department's business function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services. It supports enterprise-wide platform.s and services including critical applications, networks, telecommunication, call centres, hosting, intranet/internet sites; delivers business and corporate funded project; and oversees the delivering of services provided by technology service providers such as Cenitex.

About the role: 

The Business Analyst's role is to provide leadership and develop best practice for business analysis to deliver continuous improvement, transforming the ICT landscape and delivering business value. Provide expert subject matter professional advice and leadership in business analysis, to the CIO, the executive, business unit leaders and cross-functional teams leading departmental compliance and benefits realisation. Identify and respond to emerging trends and opportunities for business analysis, leading change to improve service performance and/or products to resolve major business analysis challenges.

Some of your duties will include: 

  • Provide high level advice to senior management and business stakeholders Lead and provide best-practice expertise in business, systems and data analysis, requirements management, business process modelling and data modelling.
  • Deliver major and minor work packages focussed on Business Process Re‐engineering and Business Process Modelling, Data Modelling, seeking to create business value.
  • Participate in selection and ensure appropriate use of methods, tools, techniques (for waterfall, iterative and agile) for business analysis approaches, including producing, maintaining and implementing the appropriate business analysis documentation and plans.

About you: 

As our ideal candidate, you will possess: 

  • Strong aptitude for creating and maintaining relevant documentation including data/entity models, data dictionary, functional and business requirements, process flowcharts for system functionality and test cases.
  • Understanding and experience working in projects employing agile project management methods.
  • Knowledge and experience in the planning, workshop facilitation, identification/elicitation, documentation, review and analysis to produce business cases, business requirements, business processes (as-is and to-be), and related project documentation as necessary.
  • A qualification in Technology or Business Analysis discipline or related field is desirable.
  • A Victorian driver's licence is required, as travel to Corrections sites across Victoria is required.
