About the Role

The Senior Microsoft Collaboration Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising modern collaboration and productivity solutions across the Department's Microsoft collaboration platforms. The role provides technical leadership in delivering secure, scalable, and innovative services that enhance communication, collaboration, and user experience, while ensuring alignment with the department's strategic technology roadmap.

Attributes

The role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving Microsoft 365 collaboration services, including Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Purview and associated integrations. Working closely with operational teams, digital learning stakeholders, cybersecurity teams, enterprise architecture, the role drives platform innovation, adoption, automation, governance, and service optimisation to maximise value and user experience across corporate, schools and early learning centres.

• Providing technical leadership for the design, implementation, integration, and optimisation of Microsoft collaboration platforms and services, ensuring alignment with the Department's roadmap and security requirement.
• Engaging with business and technical stakeholders to understand evolving collaboration requirements and deliver modern, user-centric solutions that enhance productivity, communication, knowledge sharing, and learning outcomes, while continuing to protect data and information.
• Driving the adoption of new Microsoft 365 capabilities, identifying opportunities for innovation, automation, and service modernisation, and developing roadmaps that maximise platform value and organisational benefit.
• Ensuring Microsoft collaboration platforms are operating in accordance with Departmental security, privacy, compliance, records management, and governance requirements.
• Working with operational support teams to establish sustainable support models, operational processes, technical standards, documentation, and service improvements that enhance customer experience and reduce total cost of ownership.

Providing senior-level technical expertise, guidance, and escalation support for complex incidents, critical issues, major projects, platform governance activities, and technology decision-making affecting collaboration services.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• A strong grasp of Microsoft Collaboration platform and related collaboration technologies.
• Enterprise experience in the optimisation of collaboration platforms within large and complex organisations.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams and delivering complex technical projects in large or multi-stakeholder environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, allowing you can translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• A genuine commitment to continuous learning and innovation for collaboration environment.
• Relevant Microsoft certifications and/or tertiary qualifications in a related discipline are a bonus, although not essential.

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
