About the Department
The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
About the Division
The Information Management and Technology Division (IMTD) guides the departments' digital capability and is leading digital transformation for the department including Victorian government schools. The Division architects, manages and supports the largest technology network in Victoria, supporting a user base of approximately 750,000 staff and students.
About the Role
IMTD provides innovation and leadership in the transformation and management of the department's digital capability through the implementation of solutions on the department's cloud environment (IaaS), enterprise cloud platforms (PaaS) and software (SaaS), using agile practices with a focus on user experience, security, and integration.
The purpose of the Manager, Technologyposition is to lead the design, implementation and lifecycle management of the shared technology platforms that make up a modern cloud-based infrastructure environment. This includes network, cloud services (IAAS & PAAS) for compute, storage and database, collaboration platforms (Microsoft, Google, WebEx) and Identity.
This includes:
- Engaging with key stakeholders and addressing the needs and priorities of the users for contemporary cloud based ICT infrastructure platform capabilities (covers device, network, compute, storage, identity and collaboration) with service offerings (covering technology capability, processes, and people).
- Working with appropriate teams and the platform providers to develop the processes and resources to maintain the infrastructure services and then look to continuously improve customer experience and/or lower the total cost of ownership.
- Engaging with the platform vendors so the department is aware of future planned developments, can contribute to the platform's enhancement roadmap and there is an ongoing approach to ensuring the department achieves value, now and in the future, from these platforms.
- Leading the team of Platform Managers, Technical Specialists, developing team capabilities to deliver customer-focused solutions and support the integration of new services into IMTD.
- Providing technical leadership on behalf of the department in relation to ICT Infrastructure services, liaising with counterparts in Victorian Public Service, as appropriate on Whole of Victorian Government issues.

They should have a proven track record of fostering a climate of service excellence, promoting innovative approaches that exceed client or stakeholder expectations. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to identify trends, obstacles, and opportunities in both internal and external environments that are relevant to their own work and team. Additionally, experience in effectively managing vendors to maximize commercial outcomes is essential. Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management, as well as leadership and capability development, are key attributes.
- Significant experience in similar role in a large organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in creating a climate of service excellence; encourage new and different approaches and solutions that will deliver benefits beyond client or stakeholder expectations.
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing trends, obstacles and opportunities in the internal and external environment that connect to own work and teams work.
- Demonstrated experience in the management of vendors to optimise commercial outcomes.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and capability development experience.
- Tertiary qualifications/Accreditation in related discipline would be advantageous
