Position Details
The VCAA is a statutory body responsible to the Victorian Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools. We provide high quality curriculum, assessment and reporting for all Victorian students birth to 18 years.
An exciting opportunity exists to join the Corporate Services Division in the Assessment Applications Unit for a fixed term full-time position.
- Salary: $97,955- $111,142 (Plus Superannuation of 11.5%)
- Ongoing/Fixed term till 18/09/2026
- Usual hours of work: Full time (flexible work conditions are available)
- Usual work location: East Melbourne
Role purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide expert analysis, programming and leadership of software changes to a suite of VCAA custom built applications that are used to run assessments in Victoria, including VCE, VET, VPC and NAPLAN.
Proven experience and efficiency in the following group of technologies is required: Uniface, Oracle database and PL/SQL. Applicants without Uniface experience may apply, but will be expected to learn how to program in Uniface as part of the role.
The main focus of application development will be Assessment Processing System (APS) - a client-server application that is primarily used to manage data and processess within the VCAA Corporate Database.
As a senior member of the development team, the position will also be responsible managing 1-2 small to medium IT development projects each year.
Providing on call support during critical business processing periods is a requirement of this position.
About the unit
The Assessment Applications Unit is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and development of bespoke applications that are used in the delivery of VCE, VET, VPC and NAPLAN.
The team is part of the VCAA IT Branch, and sits within the Corporate Services Division.

Experience and qualifications
Essential: Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology and/or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
Essential: Proven experience and efficiency in the use of Uniface (or other procedural scripting language), Oracle database and PL/SQL. (Applicants without Uniface experience may apply, but will be expected to learn how to program in Uniface).
Desirable: Experience in using the following groups of technologies would also be an advantage: ColdFusion, CSS, HTML, JavaScript and Oracle database, ASP.NET (C#), MVC, ASP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript and SQL Server database.
Desirable: Proven experience at leading small to medium sized IT projects.
