About the Department
The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
About the Victorian School Building Authority
The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is part of the Department of Education. Established in 2016, it oversees Victoria's largest school building program since the state introduced free public education in the 1870s.
The VSBA upgrades and expands existing schools and plans, designs and builds new schools to meet enrolment demand. We also support schools to maintain their buildings and grounds by offering expert advice and coordinating maintenance programs and grants.
With Victoria recently introducing two years of funded kindergarten, the VSBA is also working with the early childhood sector on a massive kindergarten construction program.
About the Division
The Corporate Division provides corporate support to all VSBA teams and fulfills an important assurance and oversight role. They guide VSBA to achieve strategic objectives and ensure decision-making is transparent and accountable.
The division also coordinates communication and consultation with local communities about their school building projects. They develop graphic design and video content, manage our social media channels, lead organisational customer service reform, distribute our e-newsletters and organise ministerial and other events for our projects.
About the Role
The VSBA is committed to a meaningful and collaborative engagement with key internal and external stakeholders through the provision of high-quality reporting across the entire VSBA infrastructure portfolio.
The Senior Project Officer, led by the Manager, will work closely with the various program areas of the VSBA to develop timely and detailed reporting on complex projects and to support the operational and strategic goals of the VSBA.
The key accountabilities for the Senior Project Officer are to:
- identify, coordinate and produce reporting and written communication which supports effective decision-making by VSBA Executive, DE and Government;
- work collaboratively across the VSBA and DE to manage information and processes on infrastructure projects across the portfolio, acting as a key point of contact for multiple teams and stakeholders;
- ensure the integrity and reliability of VSBA's delivery practices to improve transparency and efficiency of portfolio wide reporting;
- contribute to continuous improvements for delivery through automation and process improvement;
- provide expert advice on asset data concepts and usage, and contribute to a range of projects as a subject matter expert (SME);
- assure information by undertaking quality reviews and identify improvement opportunities; and
- analyse data to articulate trends, provide rationale for variances and develop recommendations for embedding insights from analysis to drive action.
- support a team of officers to undertake the above mentioned activities.
The successful candidate will have a high degree of autonomy and will be self-motivated and driven to produce results through collaboration. They will bring systems thinking, pragmatic problem solving, initiative, resourcefulness, and a deep understanding of the value of design in communicating complex ideas.
The ideal candidate will understand project and risk management practices, in addition to strong stakeholder engagement skills.
All VSBA staff have a shared responsibility to meet the same service standards outlined in the VSBA Customer Service Charter. Our goal is to make every interaction with the VSBA a positive one for our customers, colleagues and key partners regardless of our individual role or team.
