Policy Officer

The Department of Education and Training is seeking to fill the position of Policy Officer (VPS 4) in the Tertiary Education Policy and Performance Division on a fixed term basis to the end of June 2020. You will work independently and as part of a team to support the development of a range of policy initiatives that support the Victorian Government's vision for tertiary education, particularly in relation to higher education policy. You will contribute to policy advice to Ministers and Senior Officials and support them to engage externally on tertiary education policy matters, including with Victoria’s public universities. Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are essential and previous experience of tertiary education policy will be highly regarded.

Position Details

POLICY OFFICER, FIXED TERM UNTIL 30 JUNE 2020

Applications are sought for the role of Policy Officer in the Tertiary Education Policy team in the Higher Education and Skills Group in the Department of Education and Training.

The Tertiary Education Policy team leads a range of policy initiatives that advance the Victorian Government's vision for tertiary education and supports the Minister and Senior Officials to engage externally.

The team leads the Department's intergovernmental relations with other jurisdictions on tertiary education policy matters, advocating to the Commonwealth and other related policy areas across Government that interface with the Victorian tertiary education system.

The team also delivers on international education priorities for the tertiary education system and undertakes regular engagement with a range of external stakeholders on policy reform, including regulatory bodies and Victorian Universities.

This is an exciting role in a dynamic work environment, where you will work on developing policy to improve the operation and understanding of the wider tertiary education system and deliver better outcomes for Victorians. This role will contribute to higher education policy matters and will include regular engagement with Victoria's public universities.

The successful candidate will have good policy analysis and conceptual and analytical capabilities, and will be have strong stakeholder management skills.

Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are essential and previous experience of tertiary education policy will be highly regarded.
