Program Officer

There is an exciting opportunity for a Program Officer in the Asbestos Reform Unit within the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA). The role is critical to ensuring a safe environment for learning and teaching in schools. The main purpose of this role is to work with a contracted program superintendent to respond to asbestos incidents by organising emergency asbestos and reinstatement works. This position will require the successful candidate to solve problems in a highly responsive environment, and work with multiple industry and school stakeholders to derive appropriate solutions.

Position Details

The role supports the Victorian School Building Authority in delivering quality and safe learning facilities across schools.

The key accountabilities for the Program Officer are to:

• Work with program superintendent and external expert consultants to respond to emergency calls from schools regarding asbestos incidents.

• Keep track of and regularly report on the progress of emergency asbestos and reinstatement works to the manager and executives.

• Evaluate performance of program superintendent and contractors, and develop business improvements.

• Engage principals and facilities managers on asbestos-related issues, and provide advice on appropriate management of asbestos in school sites to ensure regulatory compliance.

• Where emergency incidents overlap with other asset issues, liaise with appropriate program managers to derive solutions that addresses those issues while minimising disruptions to schools and achieving value for money.
