The Secondary School Nursing program aims to promote better health outcomes and to reduce risk for young people in the school community. The Secondary School Nurse provides appropriate primary health care which includes assessment, care, referral and support School nurses practice dynamically within a health promotion and primary prevention framework based on the social model of health to address contemporary health and social issues relevant to young people, their local school community and their families. The role includes health promotion and primary prevention, health education, individual student health counselling and assessment, school development activities and providing a resource and referral service to assist young people in making healthy life style choices.

Secondary School Nurse, NG4A, Fulltime Ongoing

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly self-motivated Division 1 Registered Nurse to join the Secondary School Nursing Program in metropolitan North Eastern Victoria Region. The successful candidate will be allocated to work at a secondary school in the Outer East area.

The Secondary School Nurse delivers holistic primary care to young people in Secondary Schools as part of the School Wellbeing Team. This dynamic role includes health promotion and primary prevention, health education including classroom team teaching and small group education, individual student health counselling and assessment, school community development activities and providing a resource and referral service to assist young people in making healthy life style choices.

To be successful in this role you will work in a multidisciplinary team, establish and maintain good working relationships with teachers in the school setting and network effectively with health and allied health professionals and youth services in the community.
