Secondary School Nurse

The Secondary School Nursing Program is managed and led by DET. Nurses are placed within selected secondary schools to help reduce negative health outcomes and risk taking behavior’s amongst young people. The Secondary School Nurse role supports the school in addressing contemporary health and social issues facing young people with a focus on health promotion and primary prevention including health education, classroom education sessions and small group education and limited primary health care including student assessment, referral and support. The Secondary School Nurse works collaboratively with students, teachers, wellbeing staff, school leadership and school communities to build capacity and improve health outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills and develop your career. To be successful in this role you will work in a multidisciplinary team, establish and maintain good working relationships with key teachers in the school setting and network effectively with health and allied health professionals and youth services in the community.

 

The Secondary School Nurse, as part of the School Wellbeing Team, provides holistic, primary care to young people in Secondary Schools. The role includes health promotion and primary prevention, health education including classroom team teaching and small group education, individual student health counselling and assessment, school community development activities and providing a resource and referral service to assist young people in making healthy life style choices
