Position Details


The purpose of   the SSS team is to assist children and young people facing a range of   barriers to learning, and achieve their educational and developmental   potential. We do this through the provision of a range of strategies and   specialised support at individual, group, school and teams within Areas. SSS   staff work collaboratively with schools, students and parents to facilitate   improved emotional health and wellbeing for students.

As a SSS   Social Worker, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary Area-based team   in partnership with individuals, groups and communities to help students   reach their full potential. Area-based teams consist of a broad range of   Allied Health professionals including psychologists, speech pathologists,   social workers and visiting teachers. SSS Social Workers provide   comprehensive services to schools and school aged students, to enhance   developmental and learning outcomes and support student health and wellbeing,   addressing individual functioning related to the whole system around a child   and intervenes at these levels. This can encompass a broad range of barriers   including: learning, cognitive & behavioral issues, disabilities, mental   health, school & work transitions, self-esteem, grief & loss, trauma,   anger management, relationships, domestic violence, conflict & bullying,   cultural differences, sexuality, and drug/alcohol substance abuse and other   barriers stemming from social and economic disadvantage.

Key qualities are we looking for?

Expert advice: Providing   collaborative advice that will influence the development of teaching and   learning strategies and student wellbeing programs for school leadership   teams to embed in their practices.

Communication: Someone   with highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills as   liaison with a range of people in the education community (individuals,   groups and communities) and acting as an important conduit between students,   the school, peers, family, neighborhood and wider society are common to this   job.

Flexibility:   The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and the capability   to work autonomously when required

Collaborative approach: The   ability to provide support to students to improve student learning and work   collaboratively with other Allied Health professionals within a   multidisciplinary team.

Required:A graduate or post-graduate qualification in social work or   equivalent; and eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of   Social Workers (AASW).

This position is based in the Goulburn Area, specifically out of the Shepparton Office. Travel is a requirement as part of service delivery. SSS staff have access to departmental fleet vehicles.
