An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Projects and Policy Officer, who possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and who has demonstrated experience in relationship building, stakeholder management and consultation. The role requires someone who is self-motivated and committed to enhancing workforce diversity and inclusion. The position is located in the small Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Team within the People and Culture Unit. The successful applicant will help plan, develop, and implement workforce diversity and inclusion policies, strategies and initiatives across the Department of Education and Training. The role is pivotal in modelling and progressing inclusion and increasing workplace diversity in ways that reflect the community in which we operate and serve.

Position Details

The Senior Projects and Policy Officer, Workforce Diversity and Inclusion, is an ongoing role within the People Division of the Department of Education and Training (DET).

It is desirable for applicants to have demonstrated experience or understanding of workforce diversity and inclusion. The role will primarily contribute to the implementation of the Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Strategy that consists of nine focus areas; inclusive and diverse leadership, inclusive systems and processes, workforce flexibility, cultural diversity, disability, gender equality, LGBTI, Koorie and generational diversity. The Strategy is positioned within the context of implementing other key DET strategies such as Investing in Our People and initiatives (including the DET values).

Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience and capability in the following:

• planning, monitoring and successfully delivering projects

• undertaking policy reviews and consultations to ensure clarity, accuracy and relevance

• undertaking research and development of resources and advice to support policy implementation

• working with internal and external stakeholders to support the effective implementation of policies

• responding to Whole of Government developments in workforce diversity and inclusion, including providing advice on future actions

• coordinating committees and working groups

• identify risks and taking appropriate action to increase effectiveness of policies and programs

• preparing advice for meetings, briefs and discussion papers

• writing communications for a wide range of audiences

• planning and managing events

• fostering and managing stakeholder relationships.
