The Employee Health, Safety and Wellbeing (EHSW) Division performs it functions through five teams that span from prevention, through to response and recovery, along with strategy, advice and support. These teams adopt a holistic approach for supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce across schools, central and regional offices. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers' Compensation policy advice and support, for both physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Position Details

The purpose of this role is to:

• Promote sound and effective Workers' Compensation management practices across the Department. In particular, positively improving the performance and knowledge of all workplaces within an allocated region/portfolio in Workers' Compensation management. This includes providing training, technical and legislative advice, injuries/claims and return to work guidance and strategies, reconciliation of Workers' Compensation benefits paid, processing return to work funding requests, managing host placements (suitable duties at another worksite/workplace), responding to queries and oversight of a region's/portfolio Workers' Compensation performance.

• Engage and build strong relationships and have ongoing communications with Department workplace managers (e.g. school principals), Return to Work Coordinators, the Department's Agent, occupational rehabilitation providers and other internal and external stakeholders as required.

• Write reports, analyse data and trends, report to management on region/portfolio and workplace performance and escalate issues as required.

• Provide ongoing support with the management of Workers' Compensation claims.

• Provide guidance, support and mentoring of Return to Work Coordinators within their regions and workplaces. 

• Contribute to the ongoing development, process improvement and training of effective Workers' Compensation management, policies, practices, strategies and early intervention to improve employee health and wellbeing outcomes.For more details regarding this position please see attached position descriptions.

Your capacity to establish and maintain productive and consultative relationships will be critical as will the ability to deliver outcomes and drive change in a complex environment. Demonstrated understanding of the Worlplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013, policies and processes is expected.
