The role drives senior relationships across the Department, is responsible for Whole of Victorian Government (WoVG) compliance as well as the management of senior stakeholder relationships. The Director is responsible for specialist advice related to early childhood education, schools and higher education and training and skills as well as for communications to DET's corporate and sector workforce.

Position Details

An exceptional opportunity exists for a suitably experienced Director, Portfolio Communications to join the Department of Education and Training (DET). Portfolio Communications provides strategic communications advisory and client service delivery to DET's three portfolios; Early Childhood Education, Schools and Higher Education and Skills. It comprises specialist strategy teams to deliver strategic communications to internal and external audiences. These audiences include corporate, education sector and public audiences.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Communications, the Director, Portfolio Communications will be responsible for leading a team to provide high-level strategic communications, drive senior stakeholder relationships and provide specialist strategic communications advice related to all key audiences including public, corporate and sector workforce.

The role sits on the management team and is directly responsible for budget, resource and contract management as well as the development of a specialist team of staff through mentoring, professional development and workload management.

Key to your application will be your ability to:

Develop and manage Department-wide communication strategies for Early Childhood, Schools, Higher Education and Skills and Internal Communications

  • Strategic management of the Department's public campaigns, marketing and advertising budgets and compliance with whole of government procedures, processes and reporting regarding communications and advertising
  • Lead and coordinate department-wide strategic communications planning and implementation
  • Lead the development and rollout of sector communications to engage DET's workforce, stakeholders and partners.
