The primary responsibility of this role is to support the management of the Negligence Litigation and Redress team in accordance with the Department's values and objectives. The role assists with the work of the team to:

. provide specialist, technical and strategic legal advice on and co-ordinate contested and non-contested negligence claims against the Department; and

. respond to requests for information from the Commonwealth Redress Scheme Operator about applications for Redress.

Working closely with Principal Lawyer and Managers and Senior Lawyers in the Legal Division, the role will assist in the provision of high quality, timely legal advice often in short timeframes in relation to a wide range of claims (both litigated and non-litigated) made across Victorian government schools.

 An exciting opportunity exists for a junior lawyer to advance your legal career and to obtain valuable experience working in government as a Lawyer in the Workplace and Education Law branch of the Legal Division, in the Negligence Litigation and Redress unit.

The Department of Education and Training leads the delivery of education and development services to children, young people and adults both directly through government schools and indirectly through the regulation and funding of early childhood services, non-government schools and training programs.

The Legal Division is located within the People and Executive Services group and provides highly valued legal services across the Department's portfolios which include early childhood, schools, higher education, and training and skills.

The Negligence Litigation and Redress unit falls within the Workplace and Education Law branch of the Legal Division and is responsible for managing all negligence and redress claims brought against the Department.
