A unique and unprecedented opportunity exists for a Regional Education Court Liasion Officer that will work with Children’s Courts to provide advice on education support an educational referral and facilitate access to appropriate educational options for non Koorie and Koorie young people appearing in the Children’s Courts. Working in a DET regionally-based multi-disciplinary team, the Region Education Court Liaison Officer will support young people to remain engaged or re-engage in education or appropriate supported education pathways.

Regional Education Court Liaison Officer - North East Victoria Region

Ongoing - Full Time

These positions are a core feature of the Department's approach to addressing young people appearing before Melbourne Children's Court (Criminal Division) or regional Children's Court.

Applicants must have experience working with young people and court and youth Justice. The applicant will also be available to facilitate access to appropriate education options for young Koorie and non Koorie people on community-based youth justice order working in a DET regionally-based multi-disciplinary team, the Region Education Court Liaison Officer will support young people to remain engaged or re-engage in education.

Duties will include providing direct link between courts (including Koori Court) and education system, highlighting importance of educational engagement in education for vulnerable and at risk young people. The role will include maintaining a presence in court for young people and their families to help build relationships with lawyers, Youth Justice, court staff and provides both connection and opportunity to immediately engage with young people about education.

Officers will be required to travel to other Children's Court locations in the region (where applicable) to provide referral assistance for young people appearing before the Children's Courts”
