In this role you will provide high-level professional advice to schools that strongly influences student learning outcomes and wellbeing policies within a school community and wider Area. SSS staff do vital work in supporting students' health and wellbeing and are critical to building an excellent education system that reduces the impact of disadvantage.

Position Details

The purpose of the SSS team is to assist children and young people facing a range of barriers to learning, and achieve their educational and developmental potential. We do this through the provision of a range of strategies and specialised support at the individual, group, school and team level within a Department Area. SSS staff work collaboratively with schools, students and parents to facilitate improved emotional health and wellbeing for students.

As a SSS Speech Pathologist, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary Area-based team to build the capabilities of schools to support children and young people to engage in their education. The multidisciplinary Area-based teams consist of a broad range of Allied Health professionals including psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers and visiting teachers. SSS Speech Pathologists provide comprehensive services to schools and school aged students, to enhance developmental and learning outcomes and support student health and wellbeing.

Other key components of the role include the autonomous provision of professional services including comprehensive assessment and report writing along with advanced therapeutic interventions.

What key qualities are we looking for?

Expert advice: You will be required to provide advice that will influence the development of teaching and learning strategies and student wellbeing programs for school leadership teams to embed in their practices.

Communication: We are looking for someone with highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills as liaison with a range of people in the education community and beyond is a regular activity.

Flexibility: The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and the capability to work autonomously when required are key qualities we are looking for.

Collaborative approach: You will have the ability to undertake advanced interventions that support students and schools work collaboratively with other professionals in respect to complex cases, including supporting teachers in the development of educational programs to improve student learning, particularly for students with additional needs.

Required: A graduate or post-graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.

There is a requirement to travel to schools as part of service delivery. In most office locations, SSS staff have access to departmental fleet vehicles.
