Secondary School Nurses operate within a Health Promotion and Primary Prevention Framework based on the Social Model of Health to address contemporary health and social issues relevant to young people, their local school community and their families. The Secondary School Nurse works as part of the School Wellbeing Team in the allocated schools and is employed by the Department of Education and Training and managed by the School Nursing Program Manager.

Position Details

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly self-motivated Division 1 Registered Nurse to join the Secondary School Nursing Program in South Eastern Victoria Region (Bayside Peninsula Area). This is a fulltime position but applicants interested in 0.5 FTE employment are welcome to apply.

The Secondary School Nurse delivers holistic primary care to young people in Secondary Schools as part of the School Wellbeing Team. The role includes health promotion and primary prevention, health education including classroom team teaching and small group education, individual student health counselling and assessment, school community development, capacity building activities and providing a resource and referral service to assist young people in making healthy lifestyle choices.

To be successful in this role you will need to have the ability work in a multidisciplinary team, establish and maintain good working relationships with staff in the school setting and network effectively with health and allied health professionals and youth services in the community.
