An exciting opportunity exists for a Media and Events Adviser on a Full-time, Ongoing  basis in Communications and Media.

The Communications and Media branch is custodian of the department's story, brand and reputation. The branch supports the work of government and its partners to build inclusive and empowered communities to achieve the best health, wellbeing and safety for all Victorians.

The branch delivers progressive and best practice external and internal communications, media, community engagement, emergency management and digital and media services. The branch also maintains specialist portfolio expertise.

To support this work, the branch maintains specialist teams with in-house capability to plan and implement strategic and tactical communication activities, using a contemporary and creative skillset, which includes:

  • Social media and video production
  • Website planning, development, and publishing
  • Graphic design, events, copy writing and speechwriting
  • Advertising, market research and strategic communications
  • Internal communications strategy and implementation.

 The Public Affairs team provides integrated media, events, speeches and emergency response communications support and advice across all the department's portfolio areas.

Reporting to the Media Manager, the Media and Events Adviser is responsible for developing and implementing media and public relations strategies for the department on major policies and projects and is responsible for the evaluation of these strategies.

They will also support the planning and delivery of professional, high quality events relevant to departmental programs, including by producing high equality event briefings.

The incumbent will work closely with branch colleagues, the minister's office and relevant business areas within the department to ensure that communication is clear, engaging and timely, and is clearly aligned to the department's strategic priorities.

They will collaborate with teams across the branch to create compelling communications and media products for a range of purposes and audiences, including speeches, media releases, fact sheets, newsletters, materials for online and social media, and communications campaigns.

As appropriate, they may also be required to provide support to other teams across the Branch as and when required, including participating in out of hours media and emergency rosters, providing support for public emergencies, large-scale communications campaigns and other high priority projects, to contribute the effective management of work across the Branch and department.

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  2. Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  3. Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
