Position Details

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Office for Veterans this position leads a small and dynamic team to support and coordinate the Victorian Government's participation in the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, a joint Royal Commission of the Commonwealth Government and the state governments. The team coordinates across Victorian Government departments and agencies to develop submissions to the Royal Commission; support State and Commonwealth governance bodies and mechanisms, coordinate Victorian Government responses to requests for information; support Victorian Government witness participation in hearings; and undertake high-level research and analysis and provide high-level policy advice to Cabinet, the Minister for Veterans, Secretary and senior executive on emerging trends and issues related to the State of Victoria's participation in the Royal Commission.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

  1. Provide leadership, guidance and timely, high-quality, accurate and authoritative advice, information and reasoned recommendations on matters of a high degree of sensitivity to internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and possible system-wide improvements and prepare and present detailed, comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs, correspondence and Cabinet submissions on complex matters based on comprehensive research, feedback and investigations.
  3. Effectively manage and provide leadership to employees by:
  • fostering a flexible, dynamic and high-performing team culture
  • leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contribution to organisational goals and outcomes
  • modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values
  • where relevant, managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility
  • pro-actively building and maintaining positive relationships with peers and stakeholders across the organisation.
