Position Details
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Managing Principal Solicitor, the Senior Solicitor will be part of the Information Sharing and Privacy Law Team which plays a central role in managing legal risk for the department on a range of public law related matters and supporting the department to protect clients' privacy and share information to support community wellbeing and the social recovery of Victoria.
The Senior Solicitor will assist in providing expert policy and legal advice to the Ministers, Secretary, the Department and relevant Administrative Offices on a range of privacy law, public law and information sharing issues. The successful candidate will also provide legal oversight of the management of privacy breaches and complaints managed in the department's operational divisions, will identify and monitor emerging privacy-related risks and provide privacy specific training to departmental staff.
The successful applicant will have experience in providing legal and policy advice to government on a variety of administrative and public law issues, including administrative law, litigation and mediation, equal opportunity, human rights, freedom of information and, in particular, privacy and information sharing. It is expected the successful applicant will possess highly developed statutory interpretation, conceptual, analytical, research and problem-solving skills, combined with a flexible approach to competing demands and a strong client focus.
COVID-19 VACCINATION
The department strongly recommends (but does not mandate) that employees maintain their COVID-19 vaccination status in accordance with current ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation) advice, given their individual circumstances. As of June 2023, DFFH does not require evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
