Position Details
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Public Law and Privacy, the Principal Solicitor will play a central role in managing legal risk for the department on information sharing and privacy related matters and supporting the department to protect clients' privacy and share information to support community wellbeing and the social recovery of Victoria.
The Principal Solicitor will provide expert policy and legal advice to the Ministers, Secretary, the department and relevant administrative offices on a range of public law and privacy and information sharing issues, particularly in relation to the Communities and Families Transformation Program. The successful candidate will have the lead role in providing oversight of the management of any privacy or other emerging legal issues associated with this project and the delivery of related legal advice.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Provide effective leadership and management to a team of employees by:
- supporting individuals to achieve their potential while maximising their contribution to achieve their goals and outcomes;
- modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values;
- managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans.
- Provide authoritative advice on complex legal and policy issues, and prepare high level briefings and correspondence reflecting a strong understanding of cross government legal policy considerations.
- Proactively share information with other areas of the department to support continuous improvement, system learning and effective monitoring and coordination of departmental priorities and obligations.
