Position Details
THE ROLE
The Forensic Disability Services Principal Practitioner will provide expert-level practice leadership while driving and exploring service innovation, quality improvement, and capability development across the service. The role, in combination with the Senior Practice Leader, whom the Principal Practitioner manages, will promote high-quality, evidence-based practice and build workforce capability to enhance the way frontline services staff support people with complex needs, including those within the Forensic Disability system and those supported by Area-based Complex Needs Coordination.
The Principal Practitioner will have a prominent leadership role within Disability and Justice service systems. The role will work across multiple business units within the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and engage with our community and sector partners and stakeholders, to identify trends and promote evidence based service delivery. The Principal Practitioner will identify and support quality improvement and reform opportunities to ensure services and practice are contemporary, effective, accessible and client-focused to address the complexity of needs of people with cognitive disability interacting with the criminal justice system.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Provide specialist advice and consultancy services to departmental staff, staff from other agencies, other professionals, courts and clients and their families regarding programs and services for forensic clients with a cognitive impairment and / or complex needs.
- Identify the highest needs cases posing the highest risk and ensure they receive effective and consistent support through communities of practice and specialist advice
- Work collaboratively with other units in DFFH, namely the Office of Professional Practice and Local Areas in Community Operations to ensure appropriate connection, information sharing and visibility of Forensic Disability Services and bridge the gap between work areas to ensure clients across Complex Needs and Forensic Disability to receive the most appropriate service response.
