Position Details
THE ROLE
The Office of the Secretary and Governance is a unit within the Organisational Strategy and Governance branch reporting directly to the Secretary. The director will report to the Executive Director with their unit responsible for ensuring the duties of the Secretary are achieved, acting as a conduit between departmental business and the business of Government.
The role's primary focus is to support the Secretary to execute their duties by providing executive advice and support through exceptional administrative oversight and management and delivering systems and processes that will provide support for a range of complex and varied issues. They will do this by establishing and maintaining a framework and system for how the department oversights and delivers key responsibilities. This role does this in four ways;

- by managing the administrative actions for the Secretary
- establishing and coordinating a forward agenda for Secretary governance systems to ensure the priorities and goals are being set, managed and oversighted
- directing a team who manage the departments' reporting accountabilities, including the work required to support the department and Ministers at the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee meetings
- directing a team who coordinates the department's strategic plan and planning process.
The Director, Office of the Secretary and Governance supports the flow of information to and from the Secretary's office, pre-empting tactical, practical and strategic issues and managing these proactively in advance of issues arising. The role is required to liaise with senior leaders to consult, advise and negotiate policy and delivery issues.
The role oversees the engagement with divisions to deliver strategic plans and updates on delivery to the plan as well as key administrative duties such as quality briefings, correspondence advice, and delivering corporate reporting including PAEC.
The role is critical to Secretary's ability to oversight departmental activity by setting, running and monitoring strategic issues through Board Governance, setting and monitoring strategic plans and through coordinating PAEC and other reporting requirements in order to give the Secretary quality, timely advice on the performance of the department against priorities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

Exercise initiative and independence in dealing with departmental priority issues and as required coordinate cross divisional responses, to ensure that the Department is responsive to emerging and contentious issues in a timely and appropriate way.

Manage, monitor and improve the administrative and quality control processes for correspondence and briefings to and from the Office of the Secretary, to ensure accuracy, issue relevance, and timeliness.

Lead a team responsible for high quality administrative support in managing the flow and priority of information and briefings and correspondence to the Secretary and from Minister's and stakeholders to relevant departmental leads.
