Position Details

A new state government entity, MAP Co is responsible for the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation (MAPT) project as well as the operations, programming, promotion and maintenance of Federation Square and the new Melbourne Arts Precinct public spaces.

Set to boost Melbourne's standing as a creative and cultural capital and to harness the immense potential of one of the most vibrant arts corridors in the world, MAP Co is delivering capital projects including the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project.

The MAPT project will deliver The Fox: NGV Contemporary, a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design; an 18,000 square metre public open space in the heart of the precinct; significant upgrades to the State Theatre; and new restaurants and bars throughout the space. When complete, the Melbourne Arts Precinct will shine a light on Australia's incredible creative talent and serve a global cultural tourist drawcard.

The Role

This role reports directly to the Deputy CEO & Project Director, Map Co., is a member of the Executive Team and works closely with the MAP Co Board and associated sub-committees.

The Director, Fed Square Commercial & Operations provides strategic leadership and co-ordination across a range of operational functions including:
• property and tenancy management
• asset and built form management (including facilities management)
• capital works projects – delivery and planning
• commercial activities (sponsorships and partnerships, venue hire etc) and event production and
• occupational health and safety.

Accountabilities


• Effectively contribute as a core member of the Executive team including contributing to establishing the strategic direction and driving the operational plans for the company
• Drive the strategic planning process for the Federation Square (and Map Co) asset masterplan, identifying and providing the systems and support that the business and Executive Team require to ensure key deliverables are achieved
• Provide effective, strategic leadership to the managers and team members under your management and focus on delivering a safe and productive workplace
• Create and foster collaborative and effective relationships with all key stakeholders, including commercial partners, suppliers, tenants, government agencies and community-based organisations
• Oversee the operations and ongoing development of the precinct's property and tenancy management, including food and beverage tenancy strategy as well as the management of tenant relationships and contract agreements;
• Drive continuous improvement in the delivery of the Precinct Operations function to ensure outcomes align with commercial, scope, schedule, quality, budget and strategic directions within this area of responsibility
• Lead the Commercial Team in the development and execution of a mix of profitable, revenue generating programming, strategies and initiatives across advertising, sponsorship, licencing, merchandise, venue hire, events and activations
• Oversee the effective delivery of events, ensuring civic, community and commercial objectives are balanced and in line with the strategic goals of the business
• Carry out duties in accordance with Map Co's safety, environmental and quality policies, safety principles, corporate values and strategies
• Provide high quality advice, briefings and proposals regarding built form asset planning and maintenance to the CEO and Exec team

Your Experience

• Substantial knowledge, capability and senior level experience managing a complex and high-profile public and /or private organisation including commercial, asset, events, contract and lease management
• Strategic thinker and commercially astute, with the ability to plan and deliver outcomes that advance the long-term interests of the organisation
• Deep experience in property (including food and beverage tenancy) strategy and tenancy management and proven capability to balance the commercial and strategic outcomes of a property portfolio
• Experience in public space / hospitality precinct management preferable, alternatively a demonstrated understanding of the Arts, Cultural and broader tourism sector
• Strong, proven stakeholder engagement, management, and collaboration skills essential
• Strong commercial and financial skills
• Experience within event production, related commercial impacts including procurement and revenue is desirable
• High level communication, experience in providing executive and board level presentations and strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to undertake complex negotiations with internal and external stakeholders and Government
• Proven experience leading and directing multiple teams and divisions.
• Sound working knowledge and experience in managing stakeholders within Government highly regarded
• Can-do, positive and optimistic outlook essential
• Demonstrated working knowledge and experience of relevant legislative and code requirements to oversee the financial and operational aspects of the role, including the OH&S Act 2004, Building Act 1993, the Building Regulations 2006, the Building Code of Australia, Corporations Act 2010 and the Environmental Protection Act 1970.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior leadership role/member of senior management team
• Relevant tertiary qualification in business, finance management, OH&S, facilities management, project management or other related technical fields would be highly regarded.
• Postgraduate qualifications in a related discipline highly regarded.
