The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It’s all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.

About the role:

The Planned Care Recovery and Reform Program is responsible for continuing to drive best practice across the planned patient journey. This cuts across both co-design and delivery of system reform through to system governance and accountability, underpinned by a focus on equity and priority populations (such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Victorians) to ensure timely and equitable access to planned care for all Victorian consumers.

The Policy Officer, Governance and Accountability, will contribute to the timely and accurate reporting of system achievements, the management of vital governance forums, the undertaking of special projects that improve data availability and system intelligence, as well as guiding future planned care budget strategy. Additionally, the role will support the commissioning and monitoring of planned surgery activity – working with each of the 23 ESIS reporting health services to improve overall system accountability through partnership, support and intervention aligned with the Planned Surgery Accountability Framework. This is supported by data analysis to better understand waitlist composition, service impacts and inform performance decisions.

Demonstrating relevant experience in tracking key program elements such as funding and delivery, supporting key department committees that provide oversight, and ensuring that reporting, and underlying data systems accurately monitor and reflect progress of the Program, this role will provide the opportunity to deliver program objectives in a timely manner. Experience interpreting health service performance data and implementing accountability frameworks would be highly regarded to help drive planned care accountability across the Victorian healthcare system.

  • Assess and provide information and advice on compliance with the work area's processes and guidelines

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will possess a range of analytical, problem solving, project management, written and communication skills. You may offer specialist skills in data analytics, health systems, government processes, policy design, or program implementation. You will work closely with team members under minimal direction to define problems, analyse qualitative and quantitative inputs, consult stakeholders, and develop creative implementable solutions.
