Position Details


The Project Director, Mental Health will be a highly focused, accountable and driven professional who is passionate about contributing to the delivery of public infrastructure and leading high-performing project teams to drive exceptional outcomes. You must have experience in a health infrastructure planning or delivery setting and be able to work effectively within a complex multi-disciplinary environment, manage relationships with executive level stakeholders and deliver high quality deliverables on time and budget.

Reporting to the Director, Mental Health, the Project Director (Mental Health) will be responsible for all planning aspects of mental health projects in Victoria's health capital pipeline, including responding to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System and working closely with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Division. The role requires a dynamic outcomes-focussed infrastructure executive with demonstrated expertise in:

  • origination capital planning for all scales of mental health projects
  • building strong networks of alliances with a client focus
  • driving continuous improvements and a can-do culture.

The successful candidate will bring a deep appreciation for the Victorian Government's key infrastructure policy frameworks and priorities and work collaboratively with a dedicated team to ensure the successful delivery of capital planning. The successful applicant must also be capable of translating the Department's strategic objectives into the planning and development of the department's major mental health projects.

You will operate in a fast paced, performance focused workplace where you will need to manage multiple and competing priorities. You will be someone with proven project leadership skills that have been applied in politically sensitive environments combined with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to influence stakeholders and the ability to fully own projects and drive them forward, overcoming challenges and barriers. In addition, you will have demonstrated skills and experience in the following area:

  • Health and social infrastructure planning and development and government investment cases
  • Managing several projects simultaneously while maintaining a strategic and operational focus
  • High level interpersonal and written communication, consultation and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to make judgements about and articulate issues at senior levels within the public sector.
