As critical recommendations from the Inquiry into the Hazelwood Mine Fire, the geographic area of Latrobe City has been designated a Health Innovation Zone (the first of its kind in Australia), the Latrobe Health Assembly has been established, and Latrobe Health Advocate appointed.

The Latrobe Health Advocate is a fundamental structure within the Latrobe Health Innovation Zone that provides independent advice to the Victorian Government on behalf of Latrobe Valley communities on system and policy issues affecting their health and wellbeing. The Advocate reports directly to the Minister for Health and is supported by a small team employed by the Department of Health and Human Services and reporting directly to the Advocate.

This role will provide high-level advice and project management to support the Office of the Latrobe Health Advocate.  It will be a critical supporting role that will enable the Advocate to provide community-wide leadership within the Latrobe Health Innovation Zone and deliver advocacy for health and well-being innovation and improvements on behalf of the Latrobe Valley community.

Mandatory Vaccination Policy

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its workers and clients. As it is an essential element of any role within the department that employees be able to attend work onsite and to do so safely, employees are required to be up-to-date with their vaccinations against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment. This requirement applies unless they have a medical condition which means they cannot be vaccinated against COVID -19. Therefore, the department will ask any prospective employee, who has been identified as the preferred candidate for a role within the department, to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination status prior to any offer of employment being made. If a prospective employee has a relevant medical condition which means they cannot be vaccinated against COVID-19, they should contact the department to discuss their individual circumstances.
